[USS Chimera] ||Bravo||SD240909.05 Joint Duty Log - Lt/Lt COps/CSci Ian Vaughn and Mercedes Carpenter - "Checking in Science"

=/\= Deck 8 - Astrometrics, USS Chimera C =/\=

Ian stepped off the turbolift in a better mood then he was before the CO arrived in ODCC mainly because the CO was impressed of how Ian was doing while he was filling in for Jade. Jade was un-replaceable in Ian's book mainly because he was struggling to keep his head above on the PADDs luckily the Operations yeoman was a paper miracle worker and was able to do some of it. He was also glad to be out of the ODCC and do what he did best make sure everyone on the ship was getting what they needed to run their department smoothly.

Mercedes and Ilanre were still in the Astromerics Lab studying the charts and the Stellar Nursery. So far they'd made no progress, but they kept analysing sensor data to see if they hadn't missed anything. With each light year that they crept closer to the large sensor-blocking nebula, more information became available, promising the slightest glimpse of insight into the mysteries of the area.

Walking into the astrometric lab Ian saw two female officers at the very end of the walkway working on the console Ian made his way across the walkway and to the center pad he was always impressed with the ships astrometric lab and the center pad made it even more impressive. "Excuse ladies is one of Lt Carpenter?" Ian asked hoping that he didn't startle them.

"That would be me," the curly haired officer said, stepping down from raised platform where the consoles were located and walking over to Ian. "What can I help you with, Lieutenant?"

"Actually I was just seeing if the science department needed some more power to increase the effectiveness of the sensors to see if we can punch through the stellar nursery." Ian said looking up at the large scale monitor which allowed the viewer to get a better idea of what they were looking at.

Mercedes glanced over at Ilanre who simply gave her a we-should-have-thought-of-that look. "It's as if you've read my mind, Lieutenant," she grinned and lead him towards the nearest terminal. "As you can see, we're barely scratching the edge of the Nursery. More power to the sensors could help us boost the resolution, but... we suspect some of the interference may be artificial, so it might not work."

"Well we do have some power we add to the sensors but if the interference is artificial then more power isn't going help we would need to write a program to block out the artificial interference." Ian said walking up to the console and started tapping at some of the keys looking at the sensors, "if you give my department a day we could have a program ready for you that would block out the artificial interference." Ian said knowing just who to assign the task to.

"Would there be enough power to go around with the new stealth plating installed?" Mercedes questioned.

"Yes and no what I'm planning on doing is having a loop system allowing power to flow to other areas of the ship and then back to the armor when it needs more power." Ian said, "this way it'll be a more automatic and efficient way of doing instead of manually doing it." Ian added knowing that his team and himself were going to be very busy with other things and the more they can make automatic the better.

"That would be brilliant," she replied, looking back at Ian. "And please the Captain, no doubt. We've been coordinating our sensor results with the other ships. If your idea works then it could be beneficial to them as well. After all, three sets of ship sensors are better than one."

Smiling Ian didn't even think of pleasing the Captain the way he saw it the more information they were able to get before going into the stellar nursery the better chance they had at surviving this. "Alright well I'll go inform the team that they've a job to do and that they have a timeline." Ian smiled seeing that he needed to get some rest as well before heading up onto the bridge for his shift.
