Rangi and head nurse Lucy Fleming, stood side by side
looking down at the sleeping form of Lieutenant Mumacik. He
looked battered and burned and bruised but they were pleased
with what they saw.
Lucy was giving a verbal report, backed up by the med padd
that Rangi held in her hands.
"........so we have him on Metrazine for the cardiac
arrythmmia and he's responded well. He's prescribed 2 ccs of
Cordrazine at the moment as well prior to the next session
of treatment for the burns. Dr Walters had scheduled that
for a couple of hours all being well.
The lieutenant woke for a minute but he's on Rexlin for the
time being."
Rangi nodded. " Did he say anything?" she asked.
" He was rambling...I couldnt understand most of what he
said though he did issue an order to arrest everyone.".
Their glances met then Lucy looked back at the patient.
" He must be the luckiest person I know to come out of
something like that." she declared.
" Yes indeed." Rangi agreed handing the medpadd back to
Lucy. " I'd like a word please..in my office." she added.
"Certainly." Lucy took the medpadd and put it back in its
place then walked with Rangi out of the small bay and headed
towards the CMOs office.
" How's Martin?" she asked, introducing a conversation
removed from whatever it was that Rangi had in mind. " Glad
to have you both back I imagine."
Rangi smiled at her friend.
" Yes indeed.Laura left when we got in and despite us all
trying to be quiet Martin woke up and wouldnt go to sleep
again until he's told us every detail of what he'd been doin
but his main concern was when can we have the seaside
holiday."
Lucy laughed then remarked : "It's strange how children can
cope with things isn't it? I don't think I'd forget about
being kidnapped so soon after the event."
They arrived at the CMOs office and as Rangi led the way
inside she answered: It's possibly because he wasn't harmed.
I think he saw it all as some sort of adventure but yes,
you're right. children seem to take things in their stride."
She sat down on her green leather chair and rested her arms
on the desk as Lucy seated herself opposite.
"The initial results are back." Rangi said, reverting to
business once more.
"Seven of the deceased were crewmen but two were not. They
were Romulans."
Lucys expression showed great concern. "If there are two
then there could be more" she suggested.
"Exactly." Rangi replied."..and so I want to implement Blood
Screening. I want everyone tested for any signs of
Dermatiraeliene. If Romulans have infiltrated here they will
have undergone plastic surgery to alter their appearances
but thats one thing they cannot hide so I want to...."
The office door opened and a technician walked in but was
obviously surprised to find the CMO and head nurse there.
" Oh!..I..I'm sorry...please excuse me." she said, flustered
and unsure of herself.
"It's alright." Rangi said curtly. " What did you want?"
"Just to put these on your desk ma'am the technician
replied, holding out a set of reports.
"Thankyou." Rangi replied, standing up and reaching across
her desk to accept them.
They were handed over and the technician made a hastey
retreat. The door closed behind her and Rangi sat down
again.
" So I want..." she said , resuming the conversation as
though the interruption had not happened, "....everyone to
have a blood screen. All the staff plus the resident
patients and everyone else who comes in.
I'll recommend to the Admiral that all crews be screened.
We'll pass it off as a routine scan for Urodelean Flu..say
there has been a case and this is a precaution. If there are
any intruders masquerading as StarFleet personel we will
find them.
If the Admiral thinks its wise then we can extend it to all
incoming crews as well as civillians."
Lucy nodded.
" I'll issue the order now and we'll begin at once. If you
can organise the teams?"
"Ofcourse. " Lucy replied " I'll see to it at once."
She vacated her seat and left the office as Rangi began to
tap in the order.
