= Unknown Location - Aeran III =

Natalia began regaining consciousness when she felt the world around
her shaking heavily. It took her a moment to realise where she was,
and that was inside the escape pod. Quickly looking through the small,
narrow window of the pod, she thought she might be entering Aeran's
atmosphere, but all she saw when she looked outside was white.

The shaking quieted down and she tried to get her bearings. She was
the sole occupant of the pod. When she left the bridge of the Chimera,
she made sure that all the bridge crew had safely evacuated. She was
the only officer left on the deck and took the last escape pod
herself. After her pod ejected, she remembered a Romulan fighter
firing at one of the pods close to her. The pod lost control and
collided with hers, knocking it off its trajectory.

The force must have knocked her out, since it was the last thing she
remembered and her headache as well as the bump on the back of her
head was evidence enough that she remembered correctly.

The pod was lying at an angle and she unfastened her seatbelt, sliding
down out of it. Grabbing a tricorder and a phaser, she reached up
towards the hatch and unlocked it. A guest of freezing, icy air rushed
into the pod as soon as lifted the hatch slowly up. Squinting slightly
against the bright whiteness all around her, she climbed out of the
pod and realised her pod had come down in an area covered in snow. It
was white as far as the eye could see, stretching towards the horizon
where a pale yellow sun was either rising or setting.

In the opposite direction, the white barren landscape, stretched
towards tall peaks. She turned around to look at what was on the
otherside of her pod and stopped in her tracks. Up ahead, the snowy
plain was littered with escape pods and deployed parachutes. But that
wasn't what drew her attention. A massive, large burning Starfleet
ship lay broken and burning on the snow. Smoke and flames spew forth
from it and a dead nacelle stuck out into the air on a pylon that
looked dangerously unstable.

"Are you all right?" a voice called out to her and she saw two
Starfleet officers heading in her direction.

"Yes, I'm fine!" she shouted back, adding to herself, "at least I
think so." Natalia quickly moved back to the escape pod and looked
inside for a pair of binoculars. Getting it out, she turned back to
the two men who came towards her.

"I'm Lieutenant Chang, Chief Science Officer from the USS Oppenheimer.
This is my assistant, Ensign Kevall," he introduced himself and his
Bolian companion. "Do you have any idea what ship that is?"

"Lieutenant Commander Trzetrzelewska, XO, USS Chimera," she replied as
she lifted the binoculars to peer at the ship. Looking at the nacelle
pylon, she spotted the registry. "NCC 97900. That's the USS
Manticore."
