"Commander Summers, can I speak with you for a minute? In my
ready room?" Natalia asked as the officers filed out of the
room after the staff meeting.

Rangi turned her head to look at the XO, not expecting to be
called aside.
" Certainly." she replied and followed natalia towards the
door.

"How are you feeling?" Natalia asked as they exited into the
corridor and walked towards her ready room. "That was some
nasty bug you caught on Aeran III, I'm glad it's not
contagious."

" I was just unlucky." Rangi said giving no further details.
Only Scott, Syroc, Rojac and Shane knew the real ncause of
rangis illness. As far as natalia and the rest of the crew
knew, it had indeed been caused by a bug..literally if
anyone asked for more details. An obscure insect from the
marshlands on the planet had been invented as the excuse.

"Please, have a seat," The commander said once they were
inside. The office was still rather bare but contained a few
personal touches here and there like a holograph of her
parents and an old Russian story book that had been a gift
long ago. "Can I get you anything from the replicator?"

Rangi sat down on the offered chair. " Apple juice please."
she replied.

"Apple juice, cold," Natalia spoke to the replicator after
she'd pressed the preset button that produced her favourite
tea. The tea cup and a glass of apple juice appeared and she
brought them over to the desk.

"I'd like to discuss the current state of your department,"
she said as she sat down.
"Let me rephrase... more the
current medical state of the crew. Given the situation with
the war we simply cannot afford to take any risks. The fact
that Lieutenant Kroitzer's medical file was incomplete is
not acceptable... an SSF officer's medical file needs to be
complete at all times, and while I understand that this
wasn't the fault of your department, I need to ask you to be
extra vigilent when dealing with officers to make sure you
know their entire history.
Purposely concealing medical
information, especially during war time, is an offense that
could lead to a court martial. I'm sure you of all people
understand that during triage there isn't time to discuss a
patient's full medical history before treating them... it
needs to be on hand and it needs to be accurate, otherwise
lives could be lost."

Rangi said nothing but looked down at her glass, feeling
again the sting that Rojacs word had brought.
" You're quite right." she said then raising her eys to meet
Natalias added:
" I have spoken to the Lieutenant and understand why he
didnt divulge the information. It will be passed to
Commodore Guzman and he will ofcourse decide if futher
action needs to be taken.
The welfare of the crew is always my priority and I will
personally check that a full medical history has been taken
from each one. It might involve cross referencing background
checks so I might need your help with that."

"Of course," Natalia nodded. "I will help wherever I can,
but I think with your authority as medical advisor you might
have more luck in certain instances. I don't want you to
think we're trying to intrude on doctor-patient
confidentiality, but I'm sure, having been XO yourself, that
certain information, if kept private, does more harm than
good. For Medical to have full disclosure on patients also
helps speed up treatment and procedure."

Rangi nodded agreement. "Yes it does ofcourse." she said,
"..and I fully understand both your and the Captains
concernsabout the state of readiness of Sickbay. My late
arrival was
no excuse."

"Don't worry, under the circumstances it's understandable. I
think the captain is just a little on edge... and concerned
that his officers all seem to be be having 'accidents' at
the same time," Natalia smiled. "It doesn't bode well when
we have two... one Romulan prisoner in the Brig."

"That's true enough." Rangi replied then took a sip from her
glass. The juice was cold and had a sharp tang to the taste.
She set the glass aside.

"Speaking of which... in order to guard against any future
infiltrations, I would like your department to set up a
schedule to regularly scan all crewmembers at the DNA level
to make sure we don't have any unwanted Romulan guests. I
don't want to overstretch your department, so maybe setting
up a system whereby crewmembers just report in to sickbay
and receive a quick automated scan might be best. And if
anyone misses their scheduled scan I need to know about it
immediately."

"Thats simple enough to arrange." Rangi said, " I can begin
it
now and combine it with the routine
examinations too so it's done as a matter of course."

Natalia nodded. "Thank you. That's really all I wanted to
speak with you about. If you'll excuse me, I have to go make
a visit to the brig now," she said as they both got up and
walked towards the door. "I'll let you know if you need to
reattach a Romulan bodypart."
