"Alright who's up?" MaiKai asked her nurse Ensign Leela Niece.
Leela gave the new Pediatrics a concerned look over, "Are you sure you can handle being a doctor to children in your state?"
Mai gave her a look like 'are-you-serious?', "Ensign, I have one of my own already. What do you think?"
Leela nodded, "I understand. All I'm saying is the children aboard UNITY, your child, and the ones that come from the planet are all three different cases in their own way". She handed a padd to MaiKai.
"I've been in the medical department since I graduated from the Academy. I believe I'm fully aware that due to the child's particular environment and how they were raised will cause them to have different ranges have behavioral traits". Mai wasn't trying to sound angry. The thing was since she arrived on UNITY everyone has treated her like she could make the cut even though her last position was Chief Medical Officer of the USS Chimera - B.
"Yes, you're certainly right. I apologize if I had stepped out of line," Leela stated as she realized she may have stepped on some toes.
MaiKai shook her head, "It's alright. It's not you, Ensign. I'm just frustrated and stressed with a few things that are happening at the moment".
Leela looked up. Usually she was a hard ass, but she was really feeling for her new Head of Department and thought it best to look things over in a new light. "Is there anything you would like to talk about, then?"
Mai answered mater-of-factly, "Not right now, but I thank you for the open ear, Ensign". She walked over to a child sitting at the edge of a biobed with his arms crossed and a pouty face. "Alright. Who do we got here, Ensign?" Mai really wanted to get down to business in her department. Ever since the switch over from the Chimera, MaiKai has felt like she's been neglecting her duties.
"This is Johnny Richardson. Age: ten. He's in for a check up. He had previously been in sick with some kind of virus and infection of the stomach," Leela stated.
Mai pulled out her tricorder. "Lets take a look see," as Mai approached the child even closer to introduce herself to the child, Johnny kicked Mai hard in her right shin.
MaiKai flinched a bit, but then gave the child a bit of an evil grin as she lifted her pant leg to unveil some kind of protective gear, "I wore padding... I was warned about you, Johnny". The child finally uncrossed his arms admitting defeat.
