====== Morgue, Infirmary, SB 234: UNITY

Shane looked at the dead body of Lernen Harbright. Doctor
T'Vel performed an autopsy and confirmed the cause of
death. There was nothing more she could do and Shane asked
her to leave him in the morgue alone. Staring at the dead
body of his intel advisor, Shane realized that Lerned was
the second high ranking TF officer that was seriously
injured / killed on the UNITY since TF moved here.
Coincidence or not, like Rick Rodgers before, Lerner too was
attacked by a member of alien race – Klingon in his case.
He could not understand the reasons for the murder on Lernen
… only imagined that there was a connection between his
Intel past and his death. Sure, the Klingon aide could tell
the real reasons, but he was a member of the official
Klingon delegation and as such under diplomatic immunity.
Security could do not more then deliver the Klingon into the
hands of his envoy and send an official inquiry about his
requisition. As expected, the Klingon envoy denied the
request and Shane ordered to send an official note stating
that the aide had 24 hours to leave the station.
Nonetheless … Shane was standing here with a dead corpse
and no answers. There was only slight comfort in the fact
that Lernen was an old man knowing his dangers and prepared
to face them. Adding pain to injury … SSF Command decided
that good marine leaders are needed more urgently elsewhere
and transferred MCapt. Joeleco off the station. That left
Shane without a security advisor and UNITY without Chief of
Security. From all the three security levels on UNITY –
only promenade security was having a chief – some
Constable Nerso.
UNITY was now without a Chief Security and even without a
deputy CSEC … which was in charge of Starfleet level
security. Task Force level of security was without a chief
as well and Shane was too well aware of the security risks
the lack of leadership in security presented. He made
himself a task to find replacements as soon as possible,
even if only on a temporary basis. Second point … he had
to talk with the ambassadors already acting on the UNITY
about their staff and further attacks.
His mind briefly touched the Chimera that was last reported
to engage some Romulan forces. Shane was glad that
PontBrillant send the USS D'Artagnan to support Chimera
and really hoped that the ship and Rangi in particular were
all right.
