[USS Chimera] SD 240908.15 | USS Chimera | Joint Log, Lt Fisher & Lt Carpenter

*** CMOs Office * USS Chimera ***

" It's ok ..errr....."

"Angela Simmonds Sir."

"..Angela. I know its not your fault..just let me know as
soon as the itinery is complete."

 " Yes Sir...thankyou Sir"
The young technician waited a moment more then turned on her
heel and headed for the door, almost colliding with someone
hovering outside.

Scott closed his eyes and gave his head a shake. This was a
nightmare!
He sighed and looked back at the padd Angela had handed to
him a few minutes before.
He understood that Alexander Rice had been under alot of
pressure in the couple of days before he left and that
probably explained the few minor catastrophes that had
greeted Scott when he'd arrived as a replacement but sorting
them out when the clock was ticking away the hours to
departure was not a good start.

He scrolled down the padd, vaguely aware that someone had
entered his office and imagining it was Angela returned with
another query said, without looking up, " Yes?"
There was no reply but Scott frowned for he became aware of

a fragrance, a perfume and surely it was the same as...

"Excuse me, is this the Chief Medical Officer's office?"
Mercedes asked as she stood inside the door, full well aware
of where she was.

Scotts appeared not to believe his eyes when he looked up
but then a wide smile spread across his face as he got to
his feet and said: " This is a surprise...what are you doing
here?" He edged around his desk to step forward and greet
her.

Mercedes resisted the urge to give him a hug, knowing that
the glass walls of his office were open to all of Sickbay to
see through. Instead, she gave him a rather awkward pat on
the shoulder. "I wanted to surprise you," she said. "After
we talked last... I decided a little change was in order, so
I asked for a transfer to the Chimera. You're looking at the
new Deputy Science Chief."

" That's amazing!" he replied and couldnt have looked more
pleased than a cat who had just lapped up all the cream.
He too was aware that their meeting was open to view so
simply said. " Take a seat"   and gently touched  her arm to
propel her in the right direction, returning to his own
place.

"Thank you," Mercedes said as she sat down. "It's quite
exciting being back on the Chimera."

" A bit like old times." he agreed "...so ...you're new
department?"

"I've been brushing up on my science," she replied. "I'm a
bit rusty. The Chief of Science has given me some exercises
and tests to go through to make sure I'm up to speed with
the latest scientific developments. Needless to say I've
been doing a lot of reading the last 24 hours."

He nodded and watched her face for a moment or two thinking
that he wouldnt have believed it if half an hour ago someone
had told him Mercedes would be sitting opposite and chatting
to him before the end of the day.

" So..." he said "  Explain it to me please...I mean, you
didnt mention anything about planning a change when we met
in the departure lounge."

"No, it was a last minute decision," she said, feeling a
little self-conscious and not sure if she could tell him
that he was the main reason she was here... yet. "My
position with the MRI wasn't indefinite. It was likely I
would get a transfer or a reassignment, and I decided I
wanted  a new challenge."

He nodded to her, thinking that it was a reasonable
explanation but feeling slightly disappointed that that was
the only factor behind it.
He flashed a quick smile. " Well we all need challenges
from time to time." he said "....and at the moment mine is
to get all our supplies on board before departure."

"I've heard there have been some delays," she replied.
"Apparently there was an issue with security's weapons
transfer as well. Luckily for now my job is just to make
sure I know what's going on in the department and to know my
chronotons from my chronometrics." Mercedes laughed a little
at her joke, then added, "If you need some help, let me
know."

" I'll sort it, don't worry...but thanks for the offer, I'll
keep it in mind." He gave a warm smile.

"Then I will leave you to it," Mercedes said as she stood
up. "I should get back to my reading. LtCmdr Ra-Zerphimi
also wants me to do a chart update before we leave."

Scott stood too but with a frown asked: " Is that your job
too?"

"Normally a stellar cartographer would do it, but I think
he's trying to break me in gently," she smiled. "I'll stop
by again tomorrow, if you're not too busy."

"I'm never too busy to see you." he replied moving around
the desk nearer to where she was. " You know that." he
added.
