Mai had been pulling holograms out of a small box that was placed on her bed in her new quarters on the Starbase. She was down to the last few. The ones she liked the most she decided to put them on the nightstands in her room and then put a couple in Rachel's room on her nightstand as well.
MaiKai knew that her place was no longer on the Chimera. She would have stayed if that's what Rick would have wanted and she would have gone off the Chimera if that's what Rick would have wanted. MaiKai just wanted to be with the little family she had made. But with what has happened as of late, Mai knew what was best for Rachel was to stay with her on the Starbase. Being able to do this allowed MaiKai to be able to visit Earth more often then she could have to see Sarah, her sister-in-law, her niece, Annie, her dog that she had to send home, Kaine and even Rick. Mai hoped that all would start to turn up. She knew it would have to take a lot more time then she would have liked, but she really gunned for things running smoothly.
Mai was only going to work part time to start off with. They gave her the Department Head of Pediatrics which Mai was fine with. A huge difference from being a Chief Medical Officer aboard the Chimera, but Mai was sure she would adjust just fine. She knew that this would also be best for the two since Rachel was going to start transitioning into school and all.
Now she had taken a seat on her bed and was outlining the edges of the hologram with her fingers; skimming over the surface. It was a picture of when Rick and MaiKai had taken a picnic together in a Holodeck. It was honed in on Mai wrapped in Rick's arms as he has his head rested oh her shoulder. Both smiling having the best time. MaiKai only stared at it a moment longer before putting it on the nightstand.
She pulled out a second one it was of Rick's and Mai's wedding. It was small and planned all at the last minute, but yet it was one of the most memorable days for Mai. Her realizing that this was her family: Rick's family and she didn't need anyone else. She put this hologram on the opposite side of the first one on the same nightstand.
MaiKai then got up and walked around to the other nightstand with the box of holograms. She sat on the other side and picked up another hologram. It was a picture of her in the middle and her brothers on either side of her with Kaine in her lap. That was her family back home that she would claim and love them and try and look after them forever. The second picture she pulled out that would go on the nightstand with this picture was of Rachel when the three of them went on another picnic. Rachel was wearing a very pretty sun dress to match her mother. Rachel was just skipping through the flowers and Mai just wanted to stop time at that moment. Watching the care-free child frolic in time.
Mai then stood up and carried the box that was even lighter now into Rachel's room. Rachel was playing with a few of her toys being quite so her mommy could finish unpacking; doing just as she was told. "Mommy!" Rachel stopped working on the puzzle that she was putting together to give her mother a great big hug. "You've come to put pictures in my room now?"
"Yes dear. Here's one," Mai pulled out a picture of all the three of them cuddled on their old couch together just being goofy and saying the most random of things.
