T'Vel entered the reception and walked straight ahead to
greet her superior, the 1st Task Force Medical Advisor.
"Commander Summers, it is good to have you return," the
Vulcan doctor greeted her.

"T'Vel!" Rangi turned at the sound of the familiar voice."
Thankyou..it's good to be back." she replied.

"I have vacated my effects from the office already; I
anticipate that you'd want to start right away." T'Vel said.
"Perhaps I can brief you in the Medical Library. We have
much to discuss."

" Yes, I saw that." Rangi answered. She glanced around the
busy area then looked back at her companion." The medical
library will be fine..shall we?" She indicated the way with

a flick of her hand and the two set off together.

"Was it difficult for you to return to the Chimera, or did
you find it easy to step into the role again," T'Vel made
small talk as they walked down the corridor, something not
very Vulcan like. She was in a "good mood" however, looking
forward to her leave in a few days and her visit to Vulcan.

"It was strange." Rangi replied "...In a way I was glad to
serve on Chimera again..but to be honest about it..." she
looked towards T'Vel as she spoke "...I was shocked to have
to leave so suddenly...and I've missed Shane and martin more
than I can say."

"That is understandable," T'Vel said. "Your departure was
very sudden. While you were away, the library has been
completed," T'Vel said as she led

Rangi inside. It was a large room that contained several
access terminals, a holographic projector, and shelves with
genuine old medical tomes from various civilizations through
the Federation and beyond.

The room had only one occupant who had completed the work
she wanted to do, gathered up her belongings and walked past
them with a nod of acknowledement.

They sat down at one of the tables and T'Vel started
immediately. "Are you familiar with the events of Advisor
Harbright's death?"

" I know he was taken ill and died almost immediately...what
other events are you referring to?" Rangi asked.

"The report you received was somewhat incomplete," T'Vel
replied. She tapped at the inlaid panel on the table top and
brought up her latest report regarding the situation.
"Commander Harbright was part of a group sent to welcome the
Klingon Envoy and his delegation onboard. Witnesses report
that everything was cordial, until Harbright shook hands
with one of the Klingon aides, after which he fell violently
ill and died before medical help could reach him. Ambassador
Ayanami attacked the offending aide with a blade weapon, but
the aide survived and was sent back to the Empire."

Rangi frowned, looking at the information displayed. " I

see..." she murmured.

"The rest of the delegation remains on Unity and an
investigation is underway. Commander Harbright's autopsy
revealed very
interesting results. He was poisoned, mostly likely passed
transdermally when he shook hands with the aide." T'Vel
point to an image on a part of the report. "The compound
turned his blood almost black, creating a branching effect
shown here on his skin. It is a very interesting poison,
however. It is listed in the database under tomoalyesetrate,
but the compound found in his body varies slightly, and
bears a strong resemblance to a plant cell rather than a
simple chemical molecule."

T'Vels explanation summaried the report that Rangi was
reading. "This is fascinating." she said then raised her
head. " Is
his body still here?" she asked. "..and what do security
say?"

"I have given my report to the Security department.
Commander Harbright's body remains in stasis in the morgue
until the investigation is completed," T'Vel answered.

"Mmmmm..." Rangi stared at absently at a sculpture that

someone had thought would enhance the room. It was
modern;quite large
and, Rangi thought, looked out of place.

After a few seconds had passed she looked sideways at T'vel.
"It's a pity you're leaving." she said thoughtfully then
turning to face the Vulcan doctor added. "It would be
interesting for you to see the outcome."

"With your return I decided it would be the best time for me
to return to Vulcan," T'Vel said. "I cannot delay it much
longer. Unfortunately I leave you with more answers than
questions. Another matter which has arisen is missing stock,
specifically two cases of diophyletine."

" I wonder why anyone would want two cases of it." Rangi
said. " It's actually of little to anyone unless they can
change shape or form...Have there been no civilians that
required it?" she added, thinking of the many different
races who passed through the Starbase.

"We have no records of anyone requiring the medication, or
any medical staff having administered it," T'Vel explained.
"We conducted a search of the Infirmary, but the medication
did not turn up. Access to the stores require active
SSF-level clearance, but many staff have access to that
store every day and there is no telling when the vials went
missing."

" That really is not good enough is it?" Rangi replied,
sounding rather stern. " We need a far more secure system
than we have obviously."

"The only solution might be to store each medication
separately, so that we know which staff have access to what
medicine when," T'Vel replied. "I've compiled a list of
possible Unity staff that could have a possible need to use
it. There are only three names: Major Giellera Kinn, the
Adjunct Intelligence Advisor; Petty Officer H'ar'ta Juvpha,
a Steller Cartographer; and Crewman Taraa Iliabodn, an
Engineering Specialist."

" And none of them have required it."

They observed each other for a few moments.
" So.." Rangi said "...two mysteries...and I'm losing one of
my best AMOs too. I was surprised to see your request for
ELOA....do you have any idea when you might return to duty?"

"I am not certain, Commander," T'Vel replied. "I realise the
timing is not ideal. Perhaps in a few months."

" There is no need to tell you that you'll be missed here."
Rangi said " You are an invaluable addition to the medical
staff but you must put your families needs first. How are
your children?"

"My son is not doing very well," T'Vel admitted. "He does
not process his emotions properly and is having difficulty
working through his father's death."

Rangis expression showed sympathy. She had lost a parent
when she was little more than a child but could only imagine
what it must be like to master his feelings. "I'm sure
things will improve once you are on Vulcan. " she said.

T'Vel nodded and stood. "I look forward to returning to
Unity, Commander. Perhaps it will not be too long." Without
a change in expression, she raised her right hand in a
Vulcan salute to Rangi. "Live long and prosper, Commander."

Rangi returned the salute without problem and replied: "
Live long and prosper T'Vel."
