<<OOC..Could be jumping the gun a bit..this is set one day
after Chimeras return to the StarBase>>
*** SB Unity * Infirmary * Out Patients ***
Vlimar awoke this morning, still feeling dizzy from the
action of the past few hours. His arm was still in pain, as
well as his ankle. As a matter of fact, his entire body was
in pain, from the various injuries. Even though a tricorder
would say that he was fine, Vlimar still remembered the
excrutiating pain of feeling his chest burning with flames.
Vlimar remembered the sight of the Station, while drifting
away from it. Then, nothing, until the face of the EMH.
It took medics a good 15 minutes to get to him.
As he stoodfrom his bed, he drank the rest of the water by
his bed and
walked slowly to the door. Luckily, he realized in time he
was bare naked. He turned, put his jeans and shirt on, and
walked towards the Sickbay, for his first post-operative
follow-up.
The first day back from a mission and Rangi had taken the
opportunity to spend some time in the infirmary until Shane
was free.
She was glad to resume her former positions and Lucy and
Scott were back on the base too, something that had amused
Scott so much that he suggested they refer to themselves as
the Three Musketeers.
Lucy, now Nurse -in- Charge of the infirmary, was surprised
to find herself on a rota to run an outpatients clinic. It
was, in a way, a gentle transition although the clinic was
very busy.
She had not taken much notice of the list of names on her
padd so, leaving the examination room, she entered the
waiting area still looking down for the next in line and
reading it aloud as she walked in.
" Lieutenant Colonel Pont....Brillant please?" she tailed
off surprised to see the name there, raising her head
and glancing around at the seated patients.
Vlimar, was standing, looking at a painting on the wall. It
was sort of a 23rd Century Salvatore Dalì inspired
artwork. In another word, ugly and ugly-modern style. Vlimar
hated the tendency of modern artists of imitating their
ancestors. It was a waste of paint, talent and time. Vlimar
heard his name.
{Familiar voice...}, Vlimar thought. {This is not
necessarily good.}
He turned, and looked at the Nurse in charge, then sighed.
"Lucy...", he said, greeting her.
" Colonel." she replied as he walked towards her
"Please...in here."
She stepped aside allowing him to enter
the room and followed him a few steps behind. He didnt see
the deep breath she had taken to steady her suddenly racing
nerves. " Please take a seat." she said.
Vlimar walked in the room, looking straight ahead. In his
head, he was wondering why her, why now. He did not forget
his lack of, let's say, brain activity during their last
meeting.
Vlimar turned and took a seat on the biobed. He then
allowed himself to look at Lucy. He found her very pretty
and full of life, something that a mid-age man would
appreciate and enjoy looking at...
Lucy was studying the padd with a little more intensity
than she usually needed but the details caught her
attention. An accident..less than twenty four hours ago...a
fractured arm and ankle.. and third degree burns.
" Quite some accident Sir." she said looking up at him.
{Stop it...stop it ..stop it!} she told herself, feeling a
flush tinge her cheeks when she met his gaze.
" I need to check a few things.. please lie back."
Vlimar did not mention anything to get comments.
{Accident? Is that what they said...?}, he thought. Vlimar
took a deep breath again, then lay down, trying not to let
his mouth express his thoughts.
"Well, it just happened, I guess", he replied, grinning
nervously.
Lucy allowed herself to smile back.
" Just happened?..."she echoed
"..well, accidents tend to do that don't they?"
She turned away from him before he could answer, busying
herself with the medtray.
{ I wish Scott was doing this} she told herself, thinking
of the AMO currently touring the infirmary 'to become
familiar' with it.
{ Don't - say - anything - stupid} she warned herself and
gripping the medtricorder, turned back to find he still
watched her.
" Just relax." she said and began the scan over his arm.
"Any pain ?" she asked.
Vlimar looked at Lucy the entire time. He started to feel
she was uncomfortable, which surprised him. He rolled his
eyes, after realizing he was not looking at Lucy's back, but
lower than that. Vlimar quietly slapped his face.
{Awww, come on, old man, get it together.}, he told
himself.
As Lucy came back with the tricorder, he lay still, hoping
that he would be able to phase out for a few minutes.
"Well, it is sore. I can still feel the pain, but it's a
ghost pain, I am sure.", he claimed. "Same with the
ankle...", he replied.
" I'll come to that in just a second." she said running the
tool just above his arm. It hovered for a few seconds until
the reading was logged then, giving him a quick glance, she
moved a couple of steps to position herself near his ankle.
"Have you been resting this?" she asked when a few moments
has passed. " It's looking very inflamed ...more than it
should do."
Vlimar looked up the ceiling. He was hearing her questions,
but couldn't help liking the melody in her voice. Vlimar
smiled to himself, as he was thinking that. He remained
silent for a few seconds after that, analysing his possible
answers.
"Well, no, not really. Except from sleeping, I did not rest
it.", he replied. That was the best answer he thought of,
mainly because he wanted to avoid saying some double-sensed
words that will bring back in Lucy amazement.
" You shouldn't over do it." Lucy said." They should have
told you that yesterday...even with an osteotractor, it
takes time for a fracture such as this one to
heal...particularly in an older person."
{Why mention his age!} she scolded herself as soon as the
words passed her lips.
"Now I need to see the burns on yourchest." she added
hastily,
hoping in vain that he wouldntnotice.
" Please can you...open your shirt."
"Old person?", immediately replied Vlimar. The reference to
his age was the first Lucy mentioned it. "Yes, I guess...",
he nodded, realizing that, even if he wished it wouldn't, it
was noticeable.
Vlimar couldn't help but feeling his bubble was "popped" if
there was still a doubt that Vlimar was too old for Lucy.
"Yes, a slight burn", he finally said. Vlimar slowly removed
his shirt, revealing the freshly healed skin, as pink as it
can be, slowly getting it's pigmentation back.
The burn had been treated but it was clear that Lucy was not
happy with what she found.
She tapped away on the padd, scrolling down the pitiful
medical history and she frowned as entry after entry showed
little except the word 'Classified'. Even the treatment of
the day before held a section that was off limits to her.
She found it frustrating, telling herself that it was all
very well for things to be secret but how was she supposed
to treat him?
" I'm afraid I need to call Commander Summers." she said,
dropping the hand holding the med-padd to her side.. " Some
of your history is classified and I don't have the necessary
authority to access it."
Vlimar nodded. He wasn't surprised, as most is life was
under the "Classified" seal. His eyes turned slowly to his
left, as he looked at Lucy. He just looked at her, staring
at her eyes.
"I guess we will need Commander Summers, then...", he
replied.
Vlimar wanted to just remove the classification for Lucy,
but he was aware that doing so might jeopardize years of SSS
& SSF work.
" Yes...." Lucy said, unable to think of anything else to
say. She broke their shared gaze stepping to the workstation
consol and put a call through to Rangi, requesting her
presence as soon as possible.
"She won't be long." Lucy said, returning her attention to
her patient even though he had heard the brief conversation
himself.
Vlimar smiled. He knew that this situation was looking like
he had something to hide... and he did, but not in his
persona point of view.
Vlimar actually caught himself
wondering how he would manage to keep these secrets with
Lucy around him. He smirked at the idea, the jump in time,
that his mind allowed him to do.
He was brought back to reality by the door opening. It was
Rangi Summers.
"Problem?" Rangi asked as she entered the room, her
attention already on the man lying on the biobed. She turned
to Lucy who handed her the med padd.
" The Colonels' records are mostly classified." Lucy
explained. " I'm not too happy about the burn but wanted to
check for allergies. I think perhaps the Dermaline might not
be suitable. "
"Ok..thankyou." Rangi took the padd. " I'll deal with it.
Please carry on with the clinic."
Lucy nodded. " Thankyou." she said then giving PontBrillant
a quick glance added " Colonel" before heading to the door.
" So.. Colonel..." Rangi said as she moved nearer to
him."...I'm Rangi Summers..CMO here and Med Adviser to the
First Task Force. It's a pleasure to meet you...though not
in these circumstances ofcourse. The Commodore has mentioned
your name." She smiled as she spoke.
Vlimar smiled. "And I've heard your name, before", he added.
Vlimar took a quick glance at Rangi, recognizing the
description that Shane gave him. Vlimar felt kind of sad
that Lucy left, but, in another way, he was glad to meet
Rangi. And he knew he could see Lucy later, now that she was
"stuck" on the base...
Rangi had moved near to him and looked down at the wound
that had caused Lucys suspicions.
" Mmmmmm..." she said in a tone that implied she found it
interesting.
" A moment please...I need to read your full
history. You don't happen to know if you have an allergy to
Dermaline or its derivatives do you? They should have asked
you yesterday."
Vlimar smiled. "I do not suffer from any medical allergies,
Doctor.", he replied. "As you will see in my history, I did
have two occasions that Dermaline was prescribed to me and
it worked efficiently.", he added.
Vlimar smiled at Rangi.
"Can I ask you... a rather personnal question, Doctor?", he
asked.
