Athena had just returned from straighten up her quarters and had been
think about what she might want to do on R&R. She had on last duty
thing to perform and then she could be off unless a new request came
in. She was almost at her office door when she noticed her
appointment was already waiting. "You're very punctual Mr. Kroitzer,"
she said as she came up behind him, "I hope I haven't kept you
waiting."
Gustav jumped slightly when he heard the chief counsellor talk as he
didn't hear her come up behind him "I always try to arrive a little
early for appointments" he replied
"Very wise of you," she commented as she punched in the code that slid
the door open. "Please, come in and make yourself comfortable," she
gestured to any of the seats in the office. "Can I get you something
to drink?"
"White coffee two sugars please" he said while taking a seat in quite
a luxurious looking leather seat. Feeling a little uncomfortable
Gustav started to fidget, it wasn't the seat but the fact he didn't
much like having people analysing his mind, he didn't even like Mimi
doing it.
Athena nodded while thinking {why bother} as she looked at the almost
milky looking coffee in the cup as she took it and handed it to
Gustav. She sat in another chair nearby with her own hot chocolate.
She looked at him intensely and watched him fidget again. Smiling to
herself she asked, "How are you doing since your accident?"
Gustav pick up the cup with his right hand and took a sip then placed
it down {to much milk} "surprisingly well actually" he said, adding "I
think I have finally gotten used to my prosthetic".
"That's good to hear. Was there anyone person who was particularly at
fault for causing the accident?" {Gee, I don't think he likes his
coffee.... replicators must still need a bit of work.}
"No, not really everyone followed all the protocols that were in place
at the time, the computer logs showed that everyone had" he said not
wanting to put any blame on anyone or even imply that the accident was
anyone's fault.
"Do you feel that you returned to work too soon?" Athena had read the
files know that this wasn't the case but was a bit curious as to the
answer.
"Nope" was his only answer
"And your personal life is moving along just as smoothly as getting
back to work?"
"How do you mean?" he asked wanting to know what Athena meant by that question.
Athena raised an eyebrow, "Just wanting to know if the transitions in
your personal life were working as seamlessly as your vocational
ones."
"Oh… it's had it's ups and downs, but Mimi has been very supportive
even when she caught me making modifications to my arm" he said.
"Modifications?" Athena raised her other eyebrow this time.
Gustav smirked slightly "just some slight modifications to improve
control of the arm, nothing major… yet"
"So, you were having trouble and instead of doubling up on physical
therapy.... you made adjustments to the prosthetic."
Gustav shook his head "I never said that" he said irritated at the
implication that he took the easy way out.
Mimi had told Athena about the modifications and she wonder what
Gustav's response would be if she suggested that he took the easy
path. "You did say to improve control..." Athena repeated but left
hanging in further suggestion.
"The prosthetic's interface and micro servers weren't accurate enough
to do my job properly and no amount of physical therapy would change
that… it was a limitation of the machine" he explained.
Athena couldn't help the smirk that passed over her face at his
earnest reply. "I see."
Gustav noticed the smirk but didn't say anything.
"You seem to be adjusting fine... if you ever want or need someone to
talk to I'm here and not as biased as Mimi," Athena finished with a
smile. "In other words relax.... you passed your not going to the
loony bin today."
"That's good to hear" Gustav said as he got up and left the office.
