[USS Chimera] SD 240808.06 | SB Unity | Joint Log, Cmdr Ohmsford & Cmdr Rodgers

=Main Engineering=
=U.S.S. Rapier=

"Anyhow, sir. We should be ready two days ahead of schedule," Lieutenant (j.g) al-Rashid, who was directly in charge of Rapier repairs, explained.

"Good, because Captain Rodgers wanted me to have the Rapier finished a day ahead of schedule. I'll tell him that will be impossible," Rick said.

"But, sir. We can be finished two days early," Lieutenant Proietti said.

"Sure, but Captain Rodgers doesn't know that," Rick smiled. "When we get finished two days ahead of schedule, we're look like friggin' miracle workers."

"Aye, sir ... I mean Rick," Proietti said.

After a couple more minutes of being briefed by al-Rashid, Rick and Proietti stepped out of main engineering to continue their inspection tour. Rick looked up and was surprised to see Bren approach.

"Commander, this is a surprise," Rick said.

"Rick," Bren greeted as he approached the engineer. His eye was still a little swollen, but he hoped it wouldn't attract too much attention.

Rick looked over at Lara.

"Lieutenant, I'll meet you back at shipyard ops later," Rick said.

"Aye, sir," she said as she walked away leaving Bren and Rick alone.

"Bren, I just heard a couple of hours ago about what happened to Liev. I just wanted to say how saddened I am for your loss."

Bren nodded solemnly and managed a small smile. "Thank you, Rick, I appreciate it."

Rick tried to change the subject, knowing that if anything like this happened to Mai, he wouldn't want to talk about it. Not right away, anyhow.

"So, what brings you here?" Rick asked.

"I came by to pay a visit to the Shipyard to see how things are going," Bren said. "I haven't had a chance since I got back. But, I'm glad I ran into you. I've been reviewing your performance reports and I want to speak to you myself. How've you been coping with your responsibilities?"
"I'm doing OK. I've been fortunate to have good engineers around me, so that's made my job a little easier."

Bren smiled, noticing that Rick's speech had also improved much since the last time they spoke. "I'm glad to hear that. Do you think you're ready to take on that responsibility permanently? Maybe even some more? I don't want to push you, but you're a brilliant engineer and we need as many of those as we can get."

"Well, geez Bren, you're going to make be blush," Rick smiled. "But seriously, since we've finally got the shipyard up to speed, everything around here seems to be running on auto pilot. I even think we're ready to expand, maybe widen our facilities in order to build larger ships."

Rick paused for a moment.

"So, what do you have in mind?" Rick added.

"Well, it seems there has suddenly appeared an opening for Unity's CEO position," Bren said, leaving it sort of hanging. "I can't say too much at this stage, but let's just say Commander Utley won't returning to that position, or any other position, very soon. What do you say Rick, are you up for it?"

Rick hid his a smile and then thought for a moment about asking Trent what happened with Utley.

"Sure, as long as I can also remain in charge of the shipyard. With all of the work we've put into it, I'd hate for someone come in here and mess things up," Rick said.

"Of course," Bren nodded. "The shipyard falls under Unity's jurisdiction, so as CEO you'll be in charge of it."

"Then we have ourselves a deal," Rick finally allowed himself to smile.

"Excellent," Bren smiled and shook Rick's hand.
