*** CMOs Office * USS Chimera-C ***

Hours had passed since Alexander Rice had requested Rangi to
accompany him to the ICU. Now she was back in her office,
seated once again behind her desk with the report in front
of her.

{ Time of death.17.57.}
She completed the details outlining the demise of the
Environmental Systems Specialist Harry Marina, sat back in
her chair and read through her additions.

Everything possible had been done for him but sometimes
'everything' wasn't enough and now a fourth body lay in the
morgue, frozen and labelled like a commodity until he could
be repatriated.

Soon his quarters would be cleared of his belongings.Soon
they too would be neatly labelled and awaiting passage. Soon
Rojac would begin another letter.' It is with deepest regret
that I have to inform you....'

Soon a family would receive the news they always feared and
soon another specialist would read new orders to join the
Flagship at Unity and would feel the pride that Harry Marina
had once felt not so very long ago. Life would go on.

Despite the sombre content of her report, Rangi was feeling
excited.

Earlier in the day she had received new orders which told
her that on Chimeras return to Unity she was to resume her
former position of CMO in the infirmary as well as take on
her Med Advisor mantle.

The orders were signed by Commodore Guzman, all formal and
correct with PontBrillants signature too but Rangis
expression had broken into a wide smile and she had closed
her eyes, momentarily savouring the knowledge that she was
going home.

It was only in that moment that she allowed herself to admit
just how much she had missed Shane and Martin and how she
had longed for them to be together.
She had released a long sigh of relief and had reread the
message which also told her that a replacement for the
position of CMO aboard chimera-C was to be her choice and
that her 'team' of AMO Scott Fisher and head nurse Lucy
Fleming were also being recalled.

She already had a person in mind for the CMO spot and
decided to consider it more carefully before offering the
post.
A glance at the time, displayed on a thin metal framed
chrono inset into her desk, told her the evening was well
advanced so she decided to call it a day and head back to
her quarters where she would have supper and put through a
call to Shane.
It was never certain whether he could take it or not and
often her attempts were fielded by Pakossi but if that was
the case she sent a personal message which Shane could see
and listen too later.

She stood up, ran her eyes across the desks top, full of her
work both completed and pending and reached to out to turn
off the terminal when a 'chirrup' sound warned of an
incoming message. She frowned a little but sat down again
and opened the message. I
t was short and to the point, which was not surprising given
that it was from T'Vel, the Vulcan doctor on board SB Unity
who currently held the ACMO position there.

Rangi read the two sentences, her eyes widening in surprise.
T'Vel had applied for an extended leave of absence.
