[CMO's Officer - Sickbay - Deck 11 - USS Chimera-C]
Rojac strode through the hallways past the medtrolleys and
beds adorned with the injured crew from the last battle. He
stopped and conversed with a few while on his way to his
unannounced visit to Commander Summer's office. The attitude
in sickbay was quite casual, despite recent battle. It
wasn't a bad thing, crew were being taken care of; it was
just unexpected for the Commanding Officer after such a
stressful encounter with a Romulan flotilla. He approached
the office door to the CMO, walking past the frosted glass,
and pressed the chime.
" Yes..." Rangi said, still engrossed in the data she was
reading." Come in" she added almost as an after thought and
it was a second or so before she looked up to see who wanted
to speak to her.
"Captain!" she said, hiding the surprise she had at seeing
him enter the room. She got to her feet. " This is
unexpected.....how may I help you?"
"We need to talk." Roajc said as he approached the doctor's
desk. The door shut behind him. He motioned to the chair,
"May I?"
"Of course." Rangi indicated the chair opposite her own and
waited until he began to take his place before sitting down
herself.
Rojac took the seat offered, and laced his hands atop his
lap as he leaned back into the cushions of the chair. "I
read your memo." Rojac stated after a beat.
Rangi had been half expecting a meeting at some point and
she tried to guage Rojac's response, deciding that it wasn't
going to be good.
"You mean the one about morale." she said.
"That's the one, Commander." Rojac nodded. "I understand
your points. However, I don't feel that drawing back on
standards of conduct and decorum is the only way to improve
morale in your department. Discipline, I feel, plays an
integral part in holding a team together in a stressful
situation."
"I agree." Rangi replied. "But, with respect, I feel that
sickbays and to some extents infirmaries, have their own
type of stress level."
"How do you mean, Commander?" Rojac asked, crossing his arms
in front of his chest.
Rangi considered her reply for a moment or two. " We work
all the time with people under stress." she began. "They
come here or are brought here because of ill health or
injuries. It's surprising just how many people are wary of
even stepping through the door." she said holding his level
gaze with her own.
"If they come for treatment, often they cannot wait to
leave. Some imagine even small problems are life
threatening. Almost everyone who comes in here voluntarily
has an element of stress accompanying them." She shifted on
her chair.

"In wartime, when the injuries can be extreme, when patients
die and theres nothing that we can do for them, the stress
is for us as well as for them. We save lives, we strive to
keep people alive and when its beyond us... well... I'm sure
you can understand the feeling. You yourself take the
aftermath, the condolence letters. Stress is a daily part of
life here and because its a never ending thing...oh I agree
it isn't always at the highest level.." she added quickly. "The
teams here need to have an easy relationship with
each other. They have discipline and I think their results
speak for themselves."
Rojac nodded. "I concede your point, Commander. You're the
officer on the field, and I will defer to your judgment on
the matter. But the problem arises that you will not be 'in
the field' to much longer. As I'm sure you know..."
Rangi nodded. " Yes." she said and gave a short smile. " I
recieved the orders...a recall to Unity."
"Yes." Rojac said. "Which leads to my real reason for this
visit: to determine who you are taking with you, who is
staying, and a recommendation for your replacement."
" I've been thinking about that." she replied. " I gather
that Doctor Fisher and Lucy Fleming are recalled too. I
would have suggested Scott for the position but I know he
has other plans. I'd like to suggest Alexander Rice."
She reached across the desk, sorted through a pile of padds,
selected one and offered it to Rojac.

" You'll see that he has an impressive record...hence his
selection for SSF, of course. During this mission he proved
himself very capable. He's also very well liked." she added
and when Rojac glanced up he saw a glimmer of
amusement in her expression as it illustrated exactly her
thoughts on crew interaction.
Rojac chuckled at the mention of the crew's geniality with
him. "That's all well and good, Commander. I just want to
know if he can do the job. I'll review this, and pass it on
to Commander Trzetrzelewska as well." He stood from his
chair. "I hope your return to UNITY goes by smoothly,
Commander."
"I'm glad to have served aboard Chimera again...but I'm
really glad to be going home."
Rojac gave her a knowing smile and handshake. "The honor
was ours, Commander."
