[USS Chimera] SD 240902.21 | Tarangor Mission | Joint Log, Cmdr Ohmsford (1TF Sci/Eng) & Cmdr Rodgers (AEO)

=Command Deck=
=Outpost R-12=

As soon as the Detector was towed back to the shipyard,
Rick went straight to talk with Bren. As soon as he arrived,
he walked up to the mission commander.

"Commander," Rick said.

"Rodgers, good to see you're back, we were beginning to
wonder what was keeping you up," Bren replied.

"Took more time than thought to find Detector, but we found
her. We managed to bring her back here."

"That's excellent news. I take it she's salvageable if you
brought her back?"

"The Detector is incredibly good shape. We will have to use
force fields on some parts of ship, but I believe she be able
to make trip to Unity under her own power," Rick reported.

"Brilliant, then the Jameson is free to tow the shipyard," Bren
replied. "I think the Commodore will be very pleased to hear
this news. We can get underway immediately; the yard is
prepped and ready for flight."

"There something else. I need to talk to you alone," Rick
said with a low tone so that only Bren could hear.

"Oh?" Bren asked, then saw the look on Rick's face. He walked
away from the technicians monitoring the station's systems to
an alcove that was a little more private.

Rick followed Bren.

"What is it? Did you discover something?" Bren asked, his
suspicions raised. With all that's been going on one could never
be too careful.

"There something you need to see," Rick said. "But I can
give you the basics."

Rick handed Bren a data PADD. Rick knew that Bren, as a
science adviser first and foremost, would understand better
than most the device they had discovered.

"This is what I been able to write up thus far," Rick explained.
"It is a very powerful tech ... technology inhibitor we found
on Detector. It ... it's power is incredible."

Bren scanned over the padd the first time and then stopped,
reading over it more carefully. "Rick..." he said as he realized
what he was reading, forgetting rank formalities. "This is
amazing. Where... how did you... does it work?"

Rick rubbed his eyes, trying to remember what he knew.

"I not know specifics, but may be similar to very high yield
energy dissipator not unlike what Breen used during Dominion
War. Though there are other factors that make this device more
effective over such wider area, including some sort of tachyon
field that I have never even heard of before. It apparently
enhances it, but to what extent ..."

He looked down at the deck, then back at Bren.

"Without further study and understanding of the device, I not
able to be more detailed."

"I remember reading about this experiment when I was at R&D,
but the project had been abandoned and the records were
classified," Bren said, thinking back on his time as the deputy
director. "This was proposed by Thomas Wright, if I'm not
mistaken."

"Trevor Wright was his name, and yes, you correct. But Wright
apparently continued his research here. The Detector was to
perhaps test the first device before shipyard ordered abandoned."

"I wonder whatever happened to him," Bren mused. "He just sort of... disappeared. Some say he was a genius, one of the best."

Rick thought for a long moment.

"According to report, Wright died some 20 years ago. But ..." Rick
said, then paused for a moment. He considered leaving it at that.

"Commander, Trevor Wright is ..."

"Alive."

Rick turned and saw Grey Richards ... aka Trevor Wright standing
a few feet away.

Bren looked ahead at the Jameson's captain and frowned. "Alive? How do you mean, sir?"

"Commander Ohmsford, I am not Captain Richards. My name is
Trevor Wright. I am alive. And that device on the Detector IS of
my creation."
